Answers to principle Questions
1. Dictatorship by King Xerxes
2. Nobles and all members of the Provinces
3. She didn't want to the party because they were
all drunk, she was being defiant and she was already royalty due to her own
lineage, she didn't need to go.
4. Ban her, strip her of her crown and make it to
where she was not allowed to see the king ever again
5. During this time period it would be tough being
a woman, knowing that Vashti was the most beautiful woman in the land, she
stood her ground which caused every woman to suffer the consequences (because
of the new law) and woman are jealous creatures
What I learned from week one.
King Xerxes is someone that I would want to look
at and party with, but I would hate his arrogance and ignorance. He is a
crude man that really doesn't have a very good self-esteem. I believe
this is why he surrounds himself with smart, beautiful, fun loving people.
I also find him to be a chauvinist when it comes to his wife. He only
sees her as an object and demands sex when he pleases. He is a very
manipulative man, but cannot make major decisions without council.
Looking ahead in the New Testament we have to
know that history will certainly repeat itself (it does on a daily basis
today), so we need to learn from the past.
The party scene is majestic. I followed
Beth's instructions and pictured the party and it is certainly a party I would
like to attend. I pictured a beautiful hall, everyone dressed in their
finest clothing and everyone drinking and having a great time. As you all
know, I love a party and a good laugh. However, I would have to consider
the motives of King Xerxes. 180 Day Expo is 6 month party. That is a LOT
of kissing up! Along with that, the 7 day party is likely to kill a few
folks, just by the length and the amount of wine consumed. (Although, I
would like to take a gold goblet home for a souvenir)
Vashti seems like an amazing woman. Don't
misunderstand! I don't necessarily think what she did was correct, but in our
feminist society, I think she stood for what she believed. I would have been concerned if my husband had been drinking for 7 days straight and asked me to
come into a room, full of nerds, with nothing but a crown on. I would
have to question his motives. I think Vashti is strong-willed,
determined, defiant, Noble and gorgeous! She is obviously someone most women
would strive to be.
I find it interesting that King Xerxes was too lazy/drunk to get his wife himself (again I would question his motives).
He sent 7 castrated men to retrieve her, which I am assuming because he
didn't want them to be sexually attracted to her. And when she denies
him, he is humiliated, embarrassed, furious and mad with anger. DEEENIED
(in my best Mike Myers voice)!
It is tough being woman because one of the most
beautiful, royally, noble women in the world just screwed up the rest of my
life (due to the law changes) all because she didn't want to go to her husband with
nothing but a crown on!
Relating this to my life. I am constantly
around women who intimidate me and make me feel less than. The good news
is, they don't define me and I can rest assured that I have faith that God loves me for me! YAY!
